Well,
Summer is here – and it’s a busy one so, bear with me there’s a lot to say, even
without England in the European Championship! It’s like Henley without the
Regatta! While on the watery theme, let me ‘launch’ into
Titanic – The Musical,
a really fantastic emotional journey. But can we cast it?? Large cast and parts
for all ages and strong singing voices required! Julia hopes HAODS will rise to
the challenge as
Titanic
is a great Society show – take a look at the character synopsis attached.
Information about the show, characters and audition pieces will be available on
the dates set out later, so, come and join us for a sing.
Did you see West Side Story? of course you did! but only if you could buy a ticket! Touts were rumoured to be outside the Kenton! What a terrific show – worthy of the efforts of our team who pulled it all together. Let’s keep the momentum up and try and get the “Full House” sign up for Titanic and this year’s outdoor production speaking of which…Henry V, unfortunately hit a few icebergs! It seems the French Army failed to turn up, but undaunted, Mike now has a strong cast raring to go with The Taming of the Shrew. Due to the new Management at Thamesfield no longer wanting us disturbing the residents, this production is to be performed at the new and idyllic venue of Peel Fold, Mill Lane, Henley, by kind permission of Alan Pontin (Kenton Theatre Chairman). Picnics by the river are almost compulsory (even if it rains – which, IT WON’T!). The Kenton Festival brought another brave band of HAODS performances to the stage with Wendy Huntley directing The Rose & Crown. Favourable adjudication and even an impromptu workshop provided a really enjoyable evening and the icing on the cake? Leah Corlett receiving the Award for Best Supporting Actor – well done to all. This play is also at Wallingford Festival on 27th June and has just been nominated for The Colin Dexter Award at the Abingdon Festival. Well done you lot (term of endearment!). A real accolade to Angela Pengelly and Jane Taylor who masterminded the Musithon – I couldn’t be there but many gave their time, expertise and support to this great fun event which raised over £1200 for the green room “new chairs project”! And, what do you think of the new lighting? Brilliant!? Now, at last, I can see the script! I think we made a good decision to replace the old dim lights and, in keeping with the current trend of reducing your Carbon Footprint, our running cost is about a third less! Well, I told you there was a lot to say. A quick reminder to come and take a closer look at Titanic, if we can get her through the locks and down the Thames! The summer is going to be busy and we will need your support and involvement in many ways as usual. Stewards for the outdoor show. through to Autumn for the journey of a lifetime on board RMS Titanic. How will it end? Well, England won’t win it!! Sorry promised not to mention the Football again! Enjoy the Regatta! Terry.
