HAODS Fun Run - On your marks, get set, go! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dean Beedell (webmaster)

funrun01-250.jpg"On your marks, get set, go!" This was the direction that boomed out across Regatta Meadows as some 230 runners set off around the 5.35 mile course on bank holiday Monday, all participants in the annual fun run held by Henley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. The event was hosted by HAODS member, Alan Elston, affectionately known as Big Al' who, with megaphone in hand, made sure that the day ran smoothly.

A new addition to the line-up this year was the presence of members of the staff of Expert Fitness, Bell Street, Henley, who provided welcome drinks and encouragement for the runners. They will now be part of the HAODS team for this event and next year will put runners through a warm-up routine in readiness for their exertions.

It was certainly a day for the young runners, as second in the male category was 16 year old Rory Marsh, with an impressive time of 31.10, followed a mere 5 seconds later by 13 year old Nathan Meredith, successfully defending his title from last year as winner in the under 16 category. It was certainly a family affair for the Meredith's, with little sister, 12 year old diminutive Lois, coming in just over 7 minutes later to win the trophy in the under 16 year old girls category. Keep your eyes out for these guys in the 2016 Olympics!

HAODS members were also amongst the runners, with a special trophy up for grabs, including Keith Jeffries, last year's winner, who was hoping to keep his crown; however he was pipped to the post by family solicitor Peter Hopkins who now holds the brief, with a time of 44.26 minutes.
Every runner received a medal (even the dogs and a sweetly sleeping babe who was pushed around the course by his grandad!) and trophies were awarded for winners and runners up in each category, which were presented by HAODS' chairman, Julie Huntington.

The results for the other categories were as follows:

First male runner, Liam Proudlock, 28.42
Runner,up, Rory Marsh, 31.10
First female runner, Alison Bird, 32.26
Runner-up, Elsa Curran, 35.00
First under 16 Boys, Nathan Meredith, 31.15
First under 16 girls, Lois Meredith, 38.26
First HAODS member, Peter Hopkins, 44.26
