"Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears! " (Marcus Antonius: Julius Caesar Act 3, scene 2.)

I always find it fascinating just how many Shakespearean quotes have crept into our everyday life, influencing our speech. Quite often, we have no idea that it is Shakespeare - it just sounds good. Oh to be so clever as to influence a language and continue to do so for over 400 years! William Shakespeare quotes such as "To be, or not to be" and "O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?" form some of his most celebrated, most quoted lines. Other famous Shakespearean quotes such as "I 'll not budge an inch", "We have seen better days" , "A dish fit for the gods" and the expression "it's all Greek to me". How many of you knew THAT was one of Will's?

These expressions have all become catch phrases in modern day speech. Furthermore, other William Shakespeare quotes such as "to thine own self be true" have become widely spoken pearls of wisdom. Well, fancy that! There are more things in heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in your philosophy! Our current show Forbidden Planet is based (very loosely!) on the bard's forbidden.png The Tempest and is peppered with misquotes from many of his works. Some will make you laugh, others will make you groan. See how many you can spot! It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. But it really is great fun!

However, there is no winter of discontent for to-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow, we have such a line up for 2011! In April, nowhere near the Ides of March we have a wonderful production of Sandi Wilson's The Boyfriend - no chance of anyone getting thee to a nunnery with this production, directed by Raymond Burton.

We follow The Boyfriend in November 2011 with the UK Premier of Raffles of Singapore, the story of Sir Stamford Raffles So what a piece of work is a man, who founded Singapore! This is a very exciting project for us as we are working very closely with the author and the composer. Raffles of Singapore was first performed in Singapore in 1979, starring our own Kevin Whately of Inspector Morse and Lewis fame. Watch out for more of this fantastic show in the press.

We all know that all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; so tonight at the Kenton, let us assay our plot, for the play 's the thing - Though this be madness, yet there is method in 't, such stuff as dreams are made on. So, this above all: to thine own self be true - if you want to laugh or make a fool of yourself reversing your polarity - That it should come to this! Go for it and enjoy the Forbidden Planet for it is a hit, a very palpable hit!
