Written by Samantha Fields

When someone said "Well, it is the UK Premiere of Raffles of Singapore - let's have a gala performance" I readily agreed. I'm all for having a good time and making things a bit special. But we also realised that as well as using this evening to promote the show, we could also help a very special cause at the same time. The Alzheimer's Society is very close to the heart of Richard Cleghorn-Brown, one of the authors of Raffles, so it was the obvious choice for them the be the beneficiary of the money raised at the Gala.We contacted them and they were delighted to send along their local fundraiser, and we are now working closely with them to make the evening a success.

Phyllis Court readily agreed to support the Gala and a superb three course dinner, including a champagne reception, wine and coffee will be served to the rapidly growing guest list, which will include celebrity names such as Rolf
Harris, Richard E Grant and Kevin Whately (who was in the original production in1979 in Singapore). Other prominent guests include The High Commissioner of Singapore and Alan Scott, the producer of the current West End hit, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

What is making it even more special is that there will be an auction of promises, with our top auction prize
- a magnificent trip for two to Singapore, including two return flights donated by Singapore Airlines, four night's stay in the magnificent 5 Star deluxe Stamford Hotel, (check out their website - it is breathtaking!) and dinner at the
legendary Raffles Hotel with a couple of Singapore Slings thrown in for good measure. We are hoping that the evening will raise in the region of £6000 for the Alzheimers Society.

The champagne reception will beginat 5.30pm, with dinner being served at 6.30pm to ensure a leisurly meal. A bottle of wine between two and coffee are included in the price, as is champagne during the interval There will be a pianist playing music from the show to set the scene during the reception. Curtain up will be 8.15pm.

Tickets for this great night out are £85 and are available from me, Julie Huntington
on hunting311@aol.com, or call me on 07831 546047.
