Raffles Rehearsals - 1 Month In! PDF Print
Written by Samantha Fields

raffles_rehearsal.jpgThe Raffles of Singapore project is an exciting opportunity for the company, but also a a little bit daunting. Every production brings its own challenges to the production team and the cast, but what with working with a new script, new songs that everyone has to learn from scratch and the extra responsibility of putting on a UK premiere, Raffles is certainly the biggest challenge for many of the people involved. Principle rehearsals started as early as July, but the main company rehearsals have now been running for a month, and the amount of work that has been put in is really beginning to show results.

With already much of the music of Act 1 learned, most of the dialogue for Act 1 set and the first few dances choreographed, the project is moving forward incredibly swiftly, and it seems to be picking up momentum all the time. With such a short rehearsal run to achieve so much we knew it wasn't going to be easy, but the amount of material that is already rehearsed and placed certainly shows that HAODS was well up to the challenge.

But not only are rehearsals productive, they have also been thoroughly enjoyable. The excitement about the production has meant that not only is everyone willing to put in the necessary hard work, but that they are all enjoying it as well. The director (Julia), musical director (Tim) and choreographer (David) demand excellent results, but always keeping in mind that we all want to enjoy ourselves, and that we want to end up with a fabulous production that was a lot of fun in the making. Already the show is taking shape, and it is easy to see that it will live up to all expectations.

Alongside the rehearsals, publicity work is also high on the agenda, and several photo-shoots are due to take place in October. More news on these to follow...
