Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas - Calling All Welsh Decendants! PDF Print
Written by Samantha Fields

milkwood4.jpgOur second Studio production will be a rehearsed reading of Dylan Thomas's most famous work, Under Milk Wood. An all-seeing narrator invites the audience to listen to the dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of an imaginary small Welsh village, Llareggub (which is 'bugger all' spelt backwards). They include Mrs Ogmore-Pritchard, relentlessly nagging her two dead husbands; the now-blind Captain Cat, reliving his seafaring times; the two Mrs Dai Breads; Organ Morgan, obsessed with his music and Polly Garter, pining for her dead lover. Later, the town wakes and the audience, aware now of how the characters' feelings affect whatever they do, watch them go about their daily business. The play delivers fast-moving text containing both humour and pathos. A rehearsed reading will still present a great challenge for the actors cast, as well as very entertaining watching for the audience.

Ideally we should have an all-Welsh cast. Reading/audition evening will be on Wednesday 7th September in the Studio at 7.45pm.

Remember, this will be a rehearsed reading and not a fully-staged production, so books will be allowed on stage. There will not be costumes as such either, as the characters will be portrayed by adding wigs or hats. Rehearsals will be every Wednesday from 7th September until the show.

There are a host of characters to cast (over 50 named characters in total!) so actors will be doubled and even trebled up! It is going to be a highly enjoyable production and we hope that it will match the success of our first studio production of the festivals plays A Dog's Life and Roman Fever.

Production dates 28 and 29 October at 8pm
All seats £7

This is an hilarious example of Thomas's work and it should not be missed. Come along and support your society while enjoying an excellent night of entertainment.
