The Mikado 1922 PDF Print

HODS (as HAODS was then known) performed their first production - The
Mikado - at the Kinema in Bell Street on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th 1922.

Ticket prices were
Reserved 5/9 and 3/6 Unreserved 2/4 and 1/3
Approx £12 and £9 £5
and £3 at todays prices.

Proceeds were in aid of the Henley
College Hospital

The joint secretaries of the society were Mr Lloyd
and Mr Rabett

A report in the Henley and South Oxfordshire Standard suggested that the
society had been formed without funds. Two large advertisements were
published (front page) on
April 21st and April 28th.

Sheelagh wilson submitted the originals of the Mikado photographs which can be found on our gallery page here, Sheelagh corrected the date of the photos, they are in fact from the very first Mikado show in 1922. Sheelagh's note reads: "The note which my late father, Frederick King, left with the Mikado photos is as follows:

'The Mikado - First of any performance in the local cinema.  Presented by the new Henley-on-Thames Operatic Society in about February 1922. The five shows were crowded to the full and scores of people had to be turned away, if they had no tickets, on the Saturday night."
